Include metallics in your design by painting furniture around the house using metallic paint, especially gold, can make them pop up and give an aesthetic boost to your living space whether you paint the entire piece of furniture gold, or just give them a gold accent.

Use Rub n Buff to upgrade your home with gold accents. Earlier this year I had a hard time finding a iron table with a glass top. I didn’t give up on my search and eventually I found one on FaceBook Marketplace for $25! It was painted with some dingy ivory paint. I couldn’t wait to paint it gold! For the project I didn’t use spray paint. Instead, I used Rub N Buff in Gold Leaf. The little tube of Rub N Buff goes a long way. I used my fingers, a 1 inch sponge brush, and 1 tube of Rub N Buff to complete my table below. I absolutely love it! Rub n Buff is error free and rubs on free and smooth. It should have a similar consistency of toothpaste. It should never be hard or clumpy when squeezing the tube.
Painting with Metallics Techniques
In order to pull this off properly, we don’t just use plain, flat, metallic gold paint. A popular technique is to layer gold paint with another metallic paint, say like silver. This would give your furniture a more elegant and refined look that is subtle yet stands out. You don’t always need to paint the entire project piece, it can make the space look monotonous. Sometimes, furniture carries itself well, in that all they need is a little gold accent. Unlike painting with regular paint where you go side-to-side or back and forth, painting with gold and metallic paint, in general, is a little different. You should paint going only in one direction to maintain its glimmer. Also, remember that painting with metallic paint like gold would give your furniture a bit of a texture.
Don’t limit your furniture gold painting to just your chairs, tables, drawers, and surfaces. If you have decorations in your house, they might benefit from a touch of gold paint. If you have craft projects, and old worn down and faded antiques painting them gold or giving them gold accents can give them a second lease of life and get a chance to be incorporated into your whole design project. Mixing Metals in the Home
Modern glam isn’t just about gold and gold paints. It is also about smooth and shiny textures, and there are a lot of shiny metals that you can use. Properly mixing the use of metals in your home can be just as important as your design choices. Combining metals and their different texture and color can be a very exquisite way to add style to your living space.
The first rule in mixing metals in your home is to decide on the metal you would use as the base. Knowing when and where to use your choice of metals guarantees your success. Do not use equal amounts of metals in a room, when you get in. You must be able to recognize only one shade of metal and all the others are subtly complimenting it without you noticing exactly. Too many types of metals used in one place can feel overwhelming.
You can choose from one to two complementary metals and you should keep your base metal to make up at least three-fourths of the finishes in a room. Gold, brass, and copper give warm colors, while silver, chrome, mirror and stainless steel give a cooler color profile. Although it’s recommended to compliment warm color metals with warm color metals; don’t hesitate to try mixing warm and cool color metals to achieve the look you want.
You can also play around with various treatments of your choice metals. Each treatment gives metals a different look. Metals can be brushed, polished, matte, antiqued, and satin, invaluable.com came up with a mixing metals infographic. Choosing which one is just as important as choosing the metals you are mixing. After you decide on the metals you want to mix and match, the implementation is just as important as choosing the metals. Make sure every room in your home follows the same design you chose.
