Why Should You Buy a Bar Cart
While a glam bar cart isn’t a necessity, it definitely is essential and a fabulous focal point. A glam bar cart will absolutely raise the bar for an empty space in any room. They are also transitional with the seasons, entertaining and holidays. I love decorating my bar carts for Halloween and Christmas. I can’t think of any room in a home which would not coordinate with a stylish bar cart. Bar Carts doesn’t have to be a place just for liquor and wine. In my case it is, but I’ll be sharing some alcohol free bar cart ideas below as well as photos of my Wine Bar Makeover. You could also save money by making your own gold bar cart buy thrifting a rolling cart or unit and painting it with RustOleum Bright Gold spray paint.
Shopping for a Gold Bar Cart with Wheels
So once you have a place for your bar cart, it’s time to shop for the perfect bar cart based on the measurements of the space where you plan to place it. I decided on a rolling because I want to to be easily transported from room to room. This is ideal if you do a lot of entertaining and if you just want to easily move your bar cart while keeping all the accessories and decor in place.
I found my gold bar cart with a mirrored top and bottom shelf. It is’t too large nor to small. It’s called the Ignatius Bar cart by Safavieh. At the time, it was on sale. It’s also sold in Gold and also in Silver. By the way, Safavieh brand is loved and highly sought out by interior designers. My product arrived in excellent condition and was easy to assemble by myself. I recommend Amazon, Overstock and Wayfair for buying a bar cart online. All 3 have awesome customer service, quick delivery and easy return policy if you’re unhappy with your purchase.
Now that you have your bar cart you now just need a theme to start gathering accessories for your vision. If you don’t know what you want yet, I’m hoping you’ll have better idea after reading this!
First and more importantly, start with what you have in the home already. You may already have some accessories. I knew I wanted a fancy decanter so that was the first thing I shopped for.
Styling Your Bar Cart with Chic and Glam Accessories
- Pop of Color with Florals or a Plant:
- A pop of color with accents or silk flowers. The silk and real touch peony flowers and the honeycomb cup came from Hobby Lobby and sold year around. Hobby Lobby always has sales on flowers and they always have a coupon you can use from your phone or print out.
- I added mini succulents in glass containers to the back corners purchased at local home decor store here called At Home.
- The Good Vibration Crystals on the tray in the photo above also adds a pop of color to my glam bar cart
- Lead-free Crystal or Glass Decanter:
- Found one with bling/jeweled top and gold rim at Burlington $22. Adding one of these with some dark liquor looks nice. I don’t even drink dark liquor, but I have quite a bit from my Stock the Bar House Warming party. I posted a similar version I found online below. There are various styles and versions of decanters out there and it would look great on your bar.
- Shot Glasses:
- If you don’t already have some, you could buy second hand at Goodwill. The Goodwill near me is over flowing with glass shot glasses and cocktail glasses.
- The 3 gold rimmed mini glasses in photo below was found at Goodwill Boutique on a Saturday so they were half off. Behind those are 3 more unique real crystal petal-like glasses glasses by Royal Limited Czech Republic also found at Goodwill. I know they aren’t the conventional type of shot glasses, but that’s what they’ll be on my bar – nothing ordinary here. The shot glasses are placed on top of 4 glass coasters. I love how the gold rim shot glasses actually match the gold rim jewel decanter.
- Gold Accents and Mixing Metals on Your Bar Cart
- Gold will make any bar look more elegant and expensive.
- My mirrored gold pineapple is my favorite accessory on my bar cart. This piece is . The white with gold pineapple came from Kirklands. I see those everywhere. The gold ampersand & gold and the diamond sculpture is from Ross.
- My bar has a mix of mirror, gold, silver or metal which blends great. Just keep each metal family to be close in color. So my bar is gold leaf and so is my pineapple. All other golds are similar. So you would do the same if it was a silver or metal accessory.
- Cart Against Wall:
- If your cart is against a wall, you could add a mirror, a Photo to coordinate with your theme. I loved this seahorse canvas, it matches the room really well. I purchased a frame from Hobby Lobby clearance section for $25. It was white in color so I just added champagne paint and gold leaf. Plopped it right over the canvas and just looks so much better, don’t ya think? I love it and decided to name it my Any-Theme Frame! Whatever I feel like and whenever I feel like it “Frame”. I also added candle wall sconces I found on clearance at Z Gallerie. My final touch is a the large floor vase plant next to my bar cart as shown in the photo below.
- Bar Cart in Corner:
- I would put a tall center piece on the top shelf of the bar or all the tallest accessories where the wall corner is, depending on if the bar is kitty-corner or against the wall flesh with a corner.
The marble cake pedestal came from Ross for $9. Check places like Ross and Burlington home goods section of store for best deals on all bar cart accessories. Found this similar Marble and Gold Cake Stand at Bed Bath and Beyond (don’t forget the 20% coupon). I actually like this stand more than mine. Maybe I’ll gold-leaf the stand on mine like this one at BBB. I found the tall ivory plant stand on clearance so I gold leafed that as well and I think it looks really good next to my Glam Gold Bar Cart.

Cheap DIY Thrifted Bar Cart
I found this dark espresso wood foldable Bar Cart on Craigslist for $10. It gets so many compliments, but I want a new look now that I’m in my first home.
I recommend checking Craigslist, Thrift Stores, Consignment Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Offer Up and 5 Miles to find your good deal on a bar cart.
It got pretty dusty in storage, so first I am cleaning it wil regular rubbing alcohol. I am allowing it 30 minutes to dry.
Painting My Thrifted Bar Cart
Next, I am spray painting it with Rust-Oleum All Surface Paint in Champagne Mist in one coat then waited 30 minutes and painted another coat. This particular shade is sold at Home Depot. It also comes in a darker version called Rust-Olem Champagne Bronze.
Styling My Newly Painted Thrifted Bar Cart – Yaay!
After 24 hours I used Self-Adhesive REAL Glass Craft Mini Square Mosaic Tiles. They were really easy to apply. I used 2 1/2 packs, but it all depends on surface you’re working with. The glass mosaic isn’t cheap or flimsy. It’s real mirror glass squares so be careful.
Now that my glass tile is applied, I can begin styling. Of course, bottles of wine and wine glasses are the easy part. After that, I added glass wine decanter and filled with wine corks, a pop of color from the simple floral arrangement with wine cork filler. Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Walmart have a wide arrange of faux florals. The Dollar Store has lots of Vases which you could also paint. You could even use your left over mini glass tiles on any square container to create a mirrored vase, similar to this one below.
My DIY Painted Thrifted Bar Cart Finished Project
Below, is my simple, cheap DIY Thrifted Bar Cart. I was able to decorate using items I already had in my home.
Here are a list of Non-Traditional Bar Cart ideas if you want to explore. I actually do have a Movie/Entertainment rolling cart which I purchased to keep movies and a DVD player on. I’m able to roll this out and connect to my livingroom table only when I need it and it saves so much space since nowadays we’re primarily streaming movies. It looks great and matches my home decor.
You could also create these carts when entertaining guests or hosting Airbnb guests. You could add snacks, toiletries, a gift, movies, local directories…the list and creativity goes on and on. I think I’ll have to do a complete post on just this title alone soon!
