New Kitchen Preparation
A talented kitchen designer could indeed assist with design, storage, and equipment, but just be able to think through every issue early on in the process, including utilities and modern kitchen light alternatives.
Before a kitchen can be constructed, the locations of utilities like the water system, drainage, air ventilation, lights, and electrical outlets must all be determined. Avoid underestimating the number of power outlets you will require. These are only some of the things you have to consider when designing a modern kitchen.
Are you worried that it’s going to be difficult to design a gorgeous modern kitchen? This list will assist you with 6 tips for designing your kitchen, soon to be the center of attention!
1. Avoid Cluttering The Counter Space
One of the first things you should keep in mind is that you should try keeping the counter free from as much as you can. Store everything into your drawers and cabinets, so that you can have as much free space as you can on the counter. Not a fan of keeping everything hidden? Then, buying a shelf or portable pantry so that everything you want to be accessible while you prepare food is easily grabbed and put back when you need it.
If there are things that you can keep on racks, keep them on the racks whenever possible. Organize everything you have on your counter into groups, so that it all looks all tidied up. If you’re storing large cookware on the counter, avoid doing so. What you should be doing instead is keep them on your stove or the top of your fridge.
Having items out on the counter might look nice, but having a clean counter with minimal clutter is something that most people would like to look at while they’re in your kitchen.
2. Darker Colors Create An Intimate Atmosphere
The majority of people don’t use up much of their time pondering over the color of a room, but it has a significant impact on our daily lives. Based on a person’s age, sex, cultural background, as well as environment, the color of a room can influence the emotions and ideas of people in many different ways. Some examples are light colors causing positive emotions and dark colors causing negative emotions. Particular colors, and even color schemes, elicit a similar emotion in the majority of the population, hence why it’s critical to pick colors carefully while designing a room.
If you’re aiming to create an atmosphere of intimacy in a room, you should be decorating with darker colors in mind. Dark colors are seen by people as warm and sophisticated and they give rooms an intimate atmosphere.
You need to be careful with black and dark blues though since these colors can overwhelm other colors easily and cause your home to look too dark.
3. Bright Whites Will Brighten Up Your Kitchen
In an otherwise volatile environment, a bright white room might appear like it’s a sanctuary of simplicity. But despite the brightness of the whites, the nitty-gritty details are all that matters when you’re trying to make a room that’s bright and elegant.
A simple refacing of your kitchen cabinets with white paint would create a bright and welcoming vibe. If you have older cabinets you can take a weekend removing the hardware, cleaning the cabinets with a degreaser and painting them the following day, then adding new updated hardware and BOOM new kitchen! I painted my cabinets with a paint designed for cabinets that creates a brush free durable coat. I did two coats of Valspar Cabinet and Furniture Paint in Ultra White Satin, however, I had this matched to Sherwin Williams Creamy at the paint counter. Absolutely did zero sanding and I used a foam roller brush and a small brush for corners and grooves.
This simple effort of painting my kitchen made me so excited and happy with the new look that I went through and organized everything in the cabinets while decluttering. You could paint the inside of the cabinets, but I did not. For the inside of the cabinets, I’d recommend a sprayer. You may want to check in with the paint guys for recommendation on the type of sprayer that is best for this kind of paint. Believe me when I say, this paint is DURABLE! Just read the reviews and see for yourself.

After I finished painting the cabinets, I purchased some satin nickel handles to add to my cabinets. There were no handles prior so these did have to have holes drilled in the cabinet doors. However, there are also options available for cabinet handles without drilling into your cabinets if your prefer. Just click on the link or Google “no drill cabinet pulls”. If you don’t have a drill, you could rent one at Lowe’s or Home Depot or you could just purchase “wood screws” and use your compatible screwdriver.
Metals with a warm appearance like copper, bronze, or gold reflect the light and cause a bright white space to have an interesting spot to look at. If you place a mirror on the opposite side of a window, in an empty area, or in a corner you’ve forgotten about will cause light to reflect off of the mirror and add depth and a sense of perspective to the room. Having reflective surfaces in a bright white room will brighten it up.
Something to keep note of is that your bright white room should have warm lighting so that the room won’t be too bright during the night when there’s not much natural light from the sun.
4. Customize Your Island To Fit Your Needs
Having an island that looks like it belongs in a generic kitchen may detract from the modern chic design of your kitchen. However, if you know what you’re doing, you won’t have any trouble designing your kitchen island to fit into what you need it for.
There are several things you need to consider when designing your island. It’s essential to have a well-designed kitchen island since it’s what your whole kitchen is built around. You can use your island to add some texture, a splash of color, or a new material.
Something you have to think about is what you’ll be using your island for. With a bit of strategic utilization, a kitchen island can frequently improve the glamourous looks of a kitchen, creating more space for storage as well as adding more seating space and gathering spots. It’s indeed critical, though, to ensure that it meets the requirements of those who will utilize it.
Another thing you have to consider is the size of the kitchen island itself along with the space around it. If the island is too big, then there’s a large amount of wasted space. On the other hand, there’s not enough space to be useful if the island is too small. If you don’t have enough room for a island, consider a portable island with storage.
5. Always Use Glass For The Tabletop
Have a table in your kitchen, but don’t have a glass tabletop? There are multiple reasons for you to use a glass tabletop. Don’t skip on one and you’ll be able to see what having a glass dining table set adds to your elegant kitchen.
One of the most important reasons to use glass tabletops is so that you can save space. The transparency of glass creates the sense of a considerably larger area. Glass counters may make a small area appear larger by giving it a light and airy feel.
Another important reason for you to choose glass for your tabletop is so that you can keep it clean and it’s non-porous. Surfaces like wood and other materials, you might be confident that they can be sterilized and properly cleaned with ease. Spillages are easily cleaned on a glass surface because glass does not collect or retain bacteria or fluids.
The adaptability of using a glass tabletop will enhance your kitchen appeal. It enables you to transform your room into whatever you like. Because glass has no color and has no major effect on the style of a room, you can combine it with any kind of style without any issues.
6. Upgrade Your Kitchen Lighting

Lighting is the first thing many of us notices when entering a kitchen, especially when there is no unique focal point such as an island or bar area. If your lighting is outdated, upgrading your lighting will bring a smile to your face when you walk into your kitchen. Even simple recessed lights are a fantastic upgrade. If you have an island or a bar seating area, then dress it up with some gorgeous pendant lights. A stunning chandelier would look lovely over your large kitchen island or dining table.
Conclusion
Once you follow some of these 6 tips, you’ll see that your kitchen has become gorgeous and modern and feel proud of your accomplishments. You’ll also be increasing the value of your home. A new kitchen is something you’ll look forward to seeing everyday and feel good about. Now when someone comes over to your house and see your new kitchen, they’ll be awestruck by your newly designed modern kitchen. Don’t forget to take a BEFORE and AFTER photo!
